This Suburb Has a Rich History
Chevy Chase was created by the Chevy Chase Land Company, formed in the 1890s by gold and silver magnates. The Chevy Chase Land Company (a development and property management company which is still thriving today) purchased huge swaths of land which remained undeveloped until the early 20th century.
Huge amounts of infrastructure were built in Chevy Chase during the 1920s, and subsequently improved the following decade — notably modern sewers, streets, and a tree-planting program. The strong infrastructure has paved the way for a robust local economy and continually satisfied residents.
Chevy Chase is largely an upscale residential suburb, buffeted by the commercial offerings in Friendship Heights and the luxury shopping available along Wisconsin Avenue.
